Victorian Climate Change Green Paper
The Victorian Government recently released the Victorian Climate Change Green Paper. The paper outlines the threats that climate change poses to Victoria and discusses several main points for dealing with these threats, including adaptation and what Victoria can offer the national Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme.
Garnaut Climate Change Review Final Report
On the 30th September 2008, Professor Garnaut released his Final Report on the impacts of climate change to the Australian economy, providing recommendations on the policy options for Australia to most effectively respond to climate change. Visit this site to download the Final Report, Draft or Supplementary Draft Reports.
Envirowatch: two years in…tracking the Victorian Government’s progress in delivering its environmental election promises.
This report by Environment Victoria, the Australian Conservation Foundation, the Victorian National Parks Association, the Wilderness Society and Friends of the Earth shows that the Victorian Government could fail to deliver more than a quarter of its 2006 election promises on the environment. C’mon Brumby, sort it out!
National Planning Report Card
See how Victoria shapes up against the other states in its approach to planning in areas like sustainability, climate change, infrastructure and transport.
Beyond Kyoto - Australia Institute Report
In this report Clive Hamilton, Justin Sherrard and Alan Tate propose a new global framework for international action on climate change. This plan would move beyond the Kyoto Protocol and move the world toward a fair, politically feasible and long-term climate change strategy.
Priorities for a Living Australia - WWF
The WWF outline the priority for government policy actions and objectives that are needed to minimise the impacts of climate change on the natural environment in Australia.
Climate Change Study - Melbourne Water
A study by Melbourne Water that examines the impacts that climate change can be expected to have on the availability, harvesting and treatment of water in Melbourne.
Energy and Equity Report - ACF and Choice Magazine
Restricted access to cheap energy is just one the impacts of climate change. In Australia it is expected to hit the poor hardest. This report offers policy responses for Australian governments so that they can get their fingers out and do something soon.
Saving Australia's Special Places - ACF
Australia will lose a lot from climate change. This report shares the special and iconic places that will be affected and lost due to the impacts of climate change.
Assessment of Impacts of Climate Change on Australia’s Physical Infrastructure - ATSE
This study assesses the ability of Australia’s infrastructure and supporting networks to meet the impacts of climate change. Who’d have guessed that they reckon successive governments have been lazy, slack and neglectful and that have a heap of work to do?
Caring for Our Country - Australian Government
The Australian Government is seeking to identify areas of our environment that they believe are sites of priority. This report looks at these areas and how we can save them.
Australia's 21st century carbon budget
This paper looks at five potential 21st century CO2 budgets for Australia based on targets of stabilising the atmospheric concentration of CO2 at 450, 550, 650, 800 and 1,000 parts per million. If it gets above 550 parts we are well and truly stuffed.
Stepping Up – Low Emission Technology in Australia
The only way to effectively manage climate change is through a national, integrated strategy. This report outlines a proposal for such a strategy by the Australian Business and Climate Group.
Climate Change Solutions for Australia 2008
This report by the WWF checks out the major climate change impacts that are coming for Australia. They have a list of actions and government policy changes that need to be followed.
Australia's Low Pollution Future: The Economics of Climate Change Mitigation
This report by the Treasury of the Australian Government is apparently one of the largest and most complex economic modelling projects ever undertaken in Australia. It investigates the potential economic impacts of reducing emissions over the medium and long term in both Australia and around the world, and looks at the impacts of things like emission pricing for the goods and services that households consume.
WWF's Dangerous Aspirations: Beyond 3 Degrees Warming
This report outlines the environmental consequences for Australia should a global temperature rise of average 3 degrees be realised. The report shows that arise of 3 degrees will lead to a serious loss of water resources and agriculture, increased bushfires, heat-related deaths, extreme weather and population displacement. On top of that, a 3 degree rise in average temperature would trigger an unstoppable climate 'tipping point', where the threshold for irreversible change will almost certainly be crossed.
The Heat is On – The Future of Energy in Australia
This report commissioned by the CSIRO studies the major energy issues that Australia is experiencing now and those we can expect to experience with further climate change.
