Forests in Australia: then and now

Australians have had a pretty good go at clearing our continent of eucalytpus forests.

We've been chopping and burning and slashing and clearing our way through forests right across Australia.

This forest clearing has affected biodiversity all across Australia and has contributed considerably to our rising greenhouse emissions.

Have a look at the map on the right to see just how much has been removed since the 1750's (start of white settlement).
