Human sign calls for Government action on climate change Article from: AAP

THE words of an 11-year-old Melbourne schoolgirl have been transformed into a giant human sign calling for Government action on climate change.

The catch-cry "Climate change - our future is in your hands" - devised by Sophie Dickinson, a grade six student at St Michael's Grammar in St Kilda, was formed by more than 5000 school children and community groups stretching across the length of St Kilda Beach.

Bayside Climate Change Action Group spokeswoman and mother-of-three Coni Forcey said the sign was a reminder that the next generation will bear the brunt of policies implemented now.

"Children can't vote ... they don't understand the politics of the vested interests of fossil fuel companies," she said.

The Federal Government's minimum five per cent carbon emissions target did not do enough, Ms Forcey said.

"Kevin Rudd hasn't lived up to his election promises," she added.
