Eco Innovators - Showcasing Sustainable Design

If you design products or services then they can help you understand the main environmental impacts of your products and provide tools and advise to reduce environmental impacts.

The brains behind the business - Leyla Acaroglu - has several years experience in sustainable design, production and consumption, specifically eco-design methodology and application.  She has an Honours Degree in Social Science Environment from RMIT University and a Diploma of Product Design and Development from Enmore Design Centre and has recently spent several months working with  Europe's best eco-design organisations.

As Research Consultant in Sustainable Products and Packaging at the Centre for Design at RMIT University, Leyla was responsible for the developed of an online 'Eco-design: How to Kit' for Design Victoria, the coordination and facilitation of a series of free seminars and workshops on eco-design for Victorian designers and businesses, project managment and development of  Greenfly online eco-design tool as well as working on research and industry engagement projects to advance the use of eco-design mythology and integrate best practice environmental decision making into the design and production of products. Aside from her eco-design work, Leyla also has experience as a journalist, environmental educator and with cultural change initiatives.

Leyla has worked on projects for the local, state and federal governments, with large and small companies to assist in the integration of best practice environmental behaviours, conducted life cycle assessments (LCA) and developed guidelines for life cycle thinking (LCT) and eco design across a variety of industries. She frequently presents at industry events, academic institutions and conferences on life cycle thinking and eco-design practice.

Leyla has been the recipient of awards including the UNEP Pathfinder award for environmental leadership and the RMIT University Patricia Guthrie Memorial Award for academic excellence. She is also very interested in social issues and volunteers her time on a variety of local and international community development projects. Leyla is also a founding member of OPEkN.
