Intergalactic global warming

mars-4.jpgEvery now and then you read something that disturbs you. You're not sure you want to know more, but you just can't help yourself, you have to read on.

This is one of those stories.

The story, "Making Mars the New Earth", from National Geographic, asks (and answers) the question: What would it take to green the red planet? The simple answer? A massive amount of global warming.

OK, so that's not so crazy, given that the red planet is also a frozen planet. You would agree that Mars might need to warm up a bit before we all agreed to pack our bags and head out there. But given that such warming might take a while, it might be a while before we start setting up camp on Mars.

Or would it? Turns out all you really need is a big budget. Big enough to pump truck loads of greenhouse gases to "assist" in the warming of Mars' atmosphere.

Alarmed? Intrigued? Baffled?
