Life-cycle of denim jeans
The clothes that we wear can have a significant environmental impact. Even the humble jean that most of us wear needs a lot of resources and energy to get to your legs.
Have a look at this diagram of the life-cycle of a pair of jeans to find out what is involved in the life of a pair of jeans (click on image to enlarge).
Although this diagram shows the life of a pair of jeans from growing the cotton to discarding an old and torn pair of jeans it is not an inclusive look at all the elements involved in creating and disposing of a pair of jeans.
Consider also the water, fertilizer, pesticides and energy used to grow the cotton. Consider also the the dye used to dye the jeans, and the materials and energy required for packaging and transport and the greenhouse gases included in these processes.
We're not asking you to go nude. Absolutely and most definately not. We need clothes: they keep us warm, they protect us from the hot sun, and they are a way of expressing who we are.
Surely there is a way to be frocked up in clothes that make us happy and that make our environment happy.
