Save a Tree - Cancel your Yellow and White Pages Delivery

yellow-pages-recycle.jpgEver notice that you are using your regularly delivered Yellow and White pages less or even not at all?

Indeed many of us have no need for the Yellow Pages (commercial listings) or White Pages (residential listings) anymore.

Since the advent of Blackberries and iPhones, and increased access to the internet via web-enabled appliances, many of us would like to opt out of receiving this wasteful relic from the past.

The energy used to produce these pages is not inconsiderable, and if you would like to cancel their delivery to your home or business, there is now a website that allows you to do it in a couple of easy steps.

How do I cancel my Yellow and White Pages delivery?

Simply go to https://www.directoryselect.com.au/ds/, submit your post code, enter your address, choose the books you would like cancel, and - presto! Delivery will be stopped for three years. If you would like to resume delivery at any time, just revisit the website to make your request.

What’s my directory made of?

On average, 40 per cent of the fibre content of the paper is recycled paper fibre and 27 per cent is recycled timber mill waste. As far as covers, tabs and bookmarks go, on average, 29 per cent of the fibre content is recycled paper fibre and 40 per cent is recycled timber mill waste.

Are my print directories recyclable?

recycle-bins.jpgYes, in most areas of Australia you can recycle your directories through garbage collection and/or commercial paper recycling. Businesses can include old directories in your Visy paper and cardboard recycling service.

Call Visy Recycling on 1300 368 479 or visit the Visy recycling website for more information.

When the Directory Recycling Program was started in 1999, just four per cent of print directories were recycled or reused.

Since then, almost 160 million directories have been recycled or re-used and the recycle and re-use figure is at an amazing 96 per cent!

Great tip, thanks! An easy step we can all do to save trees. I can't believe they bother to print them anymore anyway! It should be an opt in not opt out service. I just hope the cancellation can be implemented properly, where we live the delivery is outsourced to a couple of guys and a trailer and they just lob a book out at each address. Hopefully their systems will start to evolve.

This is the best sustainable living tip I have had for a while. Didn't know it was so easy and so glad you showed me the way. I have forwarded on to family and friends and hope that along with your other commentors we are all able to make a difference to uneccessary paper use and all those trucks and fuel delivering them.
As per Leigh's comment I simply go online to find any numbers I need.

This was the hottest tip for a long time. I have forwarded this to all my friends and sadly some people may be out of a job delivering those books, I'm much happier that I've contributed to the planet today.
