Explore-a-saurus will include a number of animatronic models of the world’s most famous dinosaurs. It will take children and their families on a hands-on adventure into the world of dinosaurs and forensic palaeontology – the science of using fossil evidence to discover how dinosaurs lived.
“The science of forensic palaeontology can be described as a sort of ‘dinosaur Crime Scene Investigation’ – where scientists look at 65 million year old evidence to try and learn more about dinosaurs and their lives – how they looked, what they ate, even what they sounded like,” said David Pickering, Collection Manager Palaeontology, Museum Victoria.
“In Explore-a-saurus, visitors will get the chance to see some of their favourite dinosaurs up close and personal as they step back in time to an entirely different age where dinosaurs ruled the planet.”
In addition to the King of the Cretaceous Period, the infamous, carnivorous Tyrannosaurus rex, visitors will also have the chance to meet other favourites like the Stegosaurus, Triceratops and Apatosaurus, among others.
In preparation for their starring role in the exhibition, the animatronic dinosaurs are currently undergoing extensive refurbishment works at the Scienceworks workshops.
